Reflections
It is important to study linguistic when major in a language, because through the linguistic courses, the students were able to understand the basic structures and the history of the language. By learning different rules and aspects of the language, it helps the students to understand how language works and how people use language to make interaction with others.
In the SPAN 303 and SPAN 313 courses, I learned about different aspects of Spanish language, such as phonology, morphology, syntax, semantic, and pragmatic. For example, I learned about the grammatical phenomena and do activities that related to grammar, and sample 1 and sample 2 are one of the homework that I have done through the course, and it helps me understand how grammar works in the Spanish language. Throughout these courses, I was able to gain basic knowledge of the structure of the Spanish language and use grammatical structures accurately.
In the LING 392 course, I was studying about the concepts and structure of the English language, and how people acquire and learn the language. Through the course, I was able to understand the role of the language and how language influences the way people talk and make interaction with others. For example, this course map out the evolution of language and present to the students that how language gradually develops over years and adapt its changes in the environment, as well as how language is being used through different situations, different group of people, and different place. The course also focuses on the dialects and writing system, and by learning many aspects of the language, such as phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics, I was able to understand and provide a complete syntactic analysis of the sentences.

SPAN 315 is about the translation. Through this course, it focuses on the writing system, in which I learned about the basic concepts and structures of the Spanish grammar, and learned to use different ways to interpret and translate the text. Sample 3, for example, in order to make a good translation from Spanish to English or vice versa, basic grammar is a must, and it does also require some critical thinking and analytical skills, because through translation, we are not only translating the context, but also the expression of the original text. So, it is important to have both knowledge of Spanish and English language, in an attempt to understand how translation works.
Through all the linguistic courses, I am not only able to develop an understanding of the structure of the Spanish language, but also to the English language as well. With both knowledge of English and Spanish language, I was able to do well in translation course. Overall, I was able to improve my speaking and writing skills.
