OVERALL INTEGRATIVE NARRATIVE
There are several reasons why I choose to major in Spanish. One reason is that, because I am interested in language and cultures in general. Secondly, I believe that I can gain myself a brand new view of the world and enrich my knowledge through the study of Spanish. Lastly, I believe that studying Spanish will be very useful and extremely valuable for my future professional occupations, since Spanish is a language that most widely spoken in the world today.
The main things that I learned from the Spanish major are the Spanish language, its cultures and literature that covered with different time periods and across different countries. Through the study, I was able to enhance my language skills to a higher level, which I have improved my reading and writing skills, critical thinking and analytical ability, and as well as strengthen my research competence. However, I also learned from the Spanish major that studying the materials from the school wouldn’t help me as much for improving my knowledge of the Spanish language and cultures as I go out and experience myself. Therefore, I have joined the study abroad programs and volunteer for the community throughout the academic years, so that I can gain knowledge and experiences.
Through the Spanish major, the student is able to develop skills for oral and written expression, as well as gaining knowledge about the Hispanic world through studying culture and literature. As the result, my initial goal is to develop language skills and cultural aspects. In order to develop the language skills, I learned to use the language in different circumstances. For example, I use my literacy skills in order to read and write texts in Spanish, and I also use my oral skills to communicate with my social and professional area. In order to develop an understanding about the cultural aspects, study in a Spanish-speaking country will be a good opportunity to enhance knowledge and experience. Therefore, I chose to participate in the study aboard program, which I studied in Spain for one semester. Before taking a trip to Spain, I have taken some Spanish linguistic and cultural courses in CSUMB, which it has helped me to prepare for an advanced study in Spain, so, by the time that I am in Spain, I was able to practice and hone my skills.

Through the learning of the Spanish program, I noticed that if I don’t have the enthusiasm and vigor for learning Spanish, I won’t be able go through any obstacles or face any challenges. Therefore, the area that I feel the most proud of is my efforts and perseverance, because without my passion, I won’t able to gain any knowledge of the Spanish language and its cultures, and apply the knowledge in my personal life and the community. Also, I won’t be able to put all the hard work and effort into the education if not having any dedication.
In the future, I wish to develop more into my oral skills, because speaking is used more frequently than writing, when we talk about communication. Therefore, I wish to gain a chance to study or work in a Spanish-speaking country, so that I can practice and hone my Spanish language skills as I communicate with the local community.
