Reflections
I took "Spanish Language I" in Barcelona, Spain, which has the equivalent as "SPAN 301" in CSUMB.
This course was covered with all grammatical aspects and the responses to the changes in the Spanish language, and throughout the semester, I have gained the opportunity to practice the Spanish language and do the assignments that related to the elements of linguistics, such as phonology, morphology, syntax, semantic, and pragmatic.
Throughout the course, I have learned about the functioning of a language, and sample 1 was one of the assignments that I did and learned through the course, which is the accentuation. The accent mark falls into two categories, which the first one is to indicate where the word is stressed, and the second one is to distinguish the meaning of the word that spelled the same.
I also learned about the textual typologies (sample 2), which using dictionaries as a source of information. There are a book form and electronic form of dictionaries for the students to look up for an explanation of the meaning of the word and how it should be used in a particular subject. There are many kinds of dictionaries, based on its function and purpose, such as dictionary of scientific, linguistic, theoretical, bilingual... One of the electronic form dictionaries that I learned from the course is Real Academia Española. Through the site, I was able to learn how to read all the abbreviations that have inside the dictionary, which provide all the information about the word, such as the origin of the word, the word class, compound words, etc.
Overall, I was able to use the language correctly, based on what I have learned about the new rules and regulations of the Spanish language that has been changing lately.
