Reflections
Language is a main tool that we use for our communication, so, it is important to have speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills when study a language, because if a student cannot apply these skills in the school or in their daily life, then, they are not good at language.
I chose SPAN 301s, a service learning course, as my demonstrate to this outcome. The main theme of this course is to do the service learning within the community. Through the service learning, it is not only an opportunity for me to serve the community, but also a great opportunity for me to gain experience and practice the language skills, such as speaking and listening. For example, in the sample 1, it is a community scan presentation. In this presentation, I was able to do the research with a classmate about the community that we chose to do our service learning, and we were also able to listen to each other point of view toward the community. Based on what we have found about the community, we were able to decided for a place that can finish our service learning, and with all the information, we were able to present it to the class.
Besides service learning, we were also studying about the Hispanic community and society throughout the semester, which we read information and watch videos about Hispanic culture. We were also doing a debate inside the classroom, after watching the video that Arizona is banning ethnic study. By doing this project, we first learn how to make a good debate, then, we gather all our ideas and finding information and data that support our ideas. With all the activities that we did in class, we can practice our language skill, as well as thinking ability.

SPAN 315 is about the Spanish grammar. Grammar is the basic structure of every language, so, it is important to understand the basic concepts and structures, in order to understand and speak the language. Through the course, I learned about all the rules that related to morphology, phonology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatic. By studying all these elements, I was able to write phrases and sentences correctly, as well as improving my speaking ability in Spanish language. Students are also required to read textbooks, so that we can do our homework and participate in class. It is important to read the textbook, because it is not only can help to develop my vocabulary and knowledge, I can also practice my speaking and writing skills. As an sample 2, I was able to read and write in both English and Spanish.
Through all the Spanish courses that I have taken in CSUMB, I was able to practice and apply my skills in school, in class, as well as in my daily life.
